SHIPPING

We ship globally and can land our pieces anywhere you need them. Local deliveries within the Metro Vancouver Area are always free. If you’d like to visit the studio, we can arrange for a pickup as well.

Due to the scale of the work, shipping and crating costs are not included when you purchase online, unless specifically stated otherwise. A member of our team will be in contact within a few days of your purchase to provide a quote.

If you wish to review shipping quotes prior to completing your purchase, please email us the details of your order and your shipping address. We will do our best to get quotes to you quickly, but please note that this does not reserve your piece - it will remain listed for sale and available to other buyers until you complete the purchase.

Once approved, your shipping & crating costs will be invoiced to you seperately and must be paid prior to shipment.

COMMISSIONS

Commissions and all custom orders require a 70% non-refundable deposit before production can begin. The remaining 30% will be charged at time of shipment (or scheduling of local pickup/delivery).

We are not able to refund deposits on custom orders. Woodworking is a subtractive process by nature, and the cutting of raw materials cannot be undone.

We can accept cheque, bank draft, and wire transfer. Please inquire or email to make arrangements. Credit card payments can also be arranged, however a 3% processing fee will be added to your total.

CARE INstructions
Solid wood is a product of our natural environment. Depending on where the tree was grown and the conditions surrounding it, each tree will display variations of color and grain when it finds new life in your home as furniture. These color variations, patterns, and knots are as unique to the piece of wood as your fingerprints are to you. We hope that you’ll find appreciation in these qualities and the stories they tell of a material grown naturally; nourished by the sun and rain, strengthened by the wind and the storm.

Although it is no longer alive and growing, solid wood is still considered as a ‘living material’ in the sense that it will adapt to the environment it’s placed in. This adaptation is driven by moisture and temperature; in warmer months your piece will absorb moisture and expand, while in colder months it will expel moisture and contract. While almost invisible to the naked eye, this means that your solid wood piece is physically changing in size. Occasionally small cracks will develop during periods of high humidity or temperature fluctuations. A room temperature of 18°C to 24°C and a constant humidity of 50% to 60% is recommended to mitigate these fluctuation periods. It is particularly important to not let the relative humidity drop below 40% in the cold and dry seasons.

Solid wood should never be placed near direct heat sources (ie. fireplace) as this can quickly dehydrate the wood and lead to more severe cracking. The surface of solid wood is also affected by exposure to UV light and will gradually change in color and tone with extended exposure. Lighter woods (ie, Eastern Maple) tend to become darker with age while darker woods (ie, Black Walnut) tend to fade. This is a natural process and not a defect of the material.

We recommend occasionally rotating pieces in place if near a sunny window, and to make a habit of clearing the table of decor items when not in use. If left for an extended time, items like place mats or centerpieces may leave ‘tan lines’ on your wooden furniture.

Solid wood will naturally develop a patina over time, aging gracefully with its owners. With minimal efforts and a little routine care, these beautiful pieces will easily outlive us and pass between generations to come.

Our finishes are based on a state of the art natural hard-wax finish. These finishes are food safe for your family, and easy on the environment. They do not require any chemicals or polishes to maintain and these should be avoided as they will ruin the finish.

If you notice that your piece is starting to appear dry and in need of a refresh, please reach out to us so we can advise on the process and supply any required oils for reinvigorating your piece.

For daily care, use a clean damp cloth moistened with just clean water. A diluted mild dish soap is ok too for deeper cleaning. Remove any excess moisture with a clean dry cloth.

WARRANTY

Our products are warranted to their original purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year. During this period, Origins Design & Fabrication Studio will repair, or replace free of charge, such merchandise as shall prove to be defective.

By virtue of the material, appearances of the wood used to build your piece may vary from the wood shown in our samples, images of any product, and physical product you’ve viewed in person. Every tree, board, and cut is unique to that instance. We can make no representation, warranty and/or guarantee in the exact color or appearance of any finished product.

The wood used in our products may contain mineral deposits, pits, gum streaks, small pin holes, knots, checks, cracks, color differences, unusual grain patterns, darker heart wood, lighter sap wood, etc. The appearance of such characteristics will depend upon the species selected and will vary in all pieces. No two products are identical. This warranty does not extend to color, grain, or texture of natural materials such as wood, because of the natural variations over which we have no control.

Expansion and contraction can occur with changes in humidity and the natural color can shift over time with exposure to sun and heat. These are normal characteristics of solid wood products and are not considered defects.

This warranty applies only to normal usage of its products in accordance with any product specifications and care instructions.
No warranty applies to any condition of any product resulting from accident, acts of third persons, environmental conditions, misuse, abuse, delivery or transportation damage, nor any condition resulting from modifications or alterations by any person, incorrect or inadequate maintenance, cleaning or care, or damages or defects caused by use of chemical treatments, cleaning products or protective coatings applied to the product.

Any chemical treatments, cleaning products or protective coatings void all warranties.
